Downtown Tampa, Florida Real Estate and Community Info

Downtown Tampa real estate features a mix of residential homes and high rise lofts, suited for those who want to live where the action is. There is certainly action in downtown Tampa, as premier restaurants, shopping complexes and recreational venues comprise this urban utopia. Downtown Tampa is the central hub of the Tampa Metropolitan area, which is home to nearly 3 million residents and includes a diverse blend of cultures. The downtown area has undergone major commercial and residential development in the last few years, adding even more excitement and spice to its already progressive and trendy post-modern cityscape.

Shopping and Dining

Finding brand name merchandise and a fantastic meal in downtown Tampa couldn’t be easier, as the area is littered with upscale restaurants and shopping centers. Downtown Tampa’s shopping scene is an eclectic combination of high-end boutiques, specialty shops and retail chains. Whether you are looking for apparel, housewares or that one-of-a-kind gift for a loved one, you are sure to find it at one of downtown’s premier shopping centers or districts. The International Plaza, WestShore Plaza and Channelside Bay Plaza are just a few.

The shopping may be exquisite, but the cuisine in Tampa will linger pleasantly on the palate and in the memory. Downtown Tampa dining has something for everyone. Whether you are looking for Indian, Mexican, Chinese or just a nice juicy steak, downtown Tampa restaurants have you covered. There is also a vibrant bar and club scene to keep your night going, while keeping your stomach and your taste buds satisfied.

Parks and Recreation

The city of Tampa manages and maintains 165 parks and beaches, with many of the parks residing in the downtown area. One of the most popular is Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, which features two interactive fountains and an electronic playground system that includes games and aerobic activities. The eight-acre park also is home to the Great Lawn, an area for performing arts with perimeter seating for audience members. Curtis Hixon certainly provides an experience that most city parks cannot duplicate.

Along with the great outdoor parks, Downtown Tampa packs plenty of family-friendly attractions within its urban sprawl.  Major sports stadiums are located downtown, such Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL’s Buccaneers, and the St. Pete Times Forum, which is home to the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning. Downtown recreation also includes the Tampa Convention Center, the Florida Aquarium and several notable museums that residents and tourists should be sure to check out, like the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, the Tampa History Center and the Glazer Children’s Museum. All in all, there are enough things to do in downtown Tampa to keep your schedule packed for the day or an entire week.

There is desirable real estate in each of downtown Tampa’s distinct districts that makes living in downtown easy, comfortable and fun. There are residential single-family homes, but many of the downtown districts are noted for their stylish high-rise lofts and condos. The Channel District features several new developments and renovations. The Towers of Channelside is one of the most recent additions to downtown Tampa’s community of condominiums and features two towers with 30 floors each. These chic living spaces include 24-hour security and plenty of upscale amenities. Other districts, such as The University Area include Victorian structures and a more classic feel, while still retaining the progressive Tampa mindset.

Schools, Health and Transportation

Downtown Tampa real estate is also highly desired because of its school system. The School District of Hillsborough County serves downtown Tampa, and runs over 200 schools in the county. Many of the district’s schools have been recognized for outstanding academic achievements, with twelve of its high schools being named in Newsweek’s list of America’s Best High Schools. The downtown area is also home to higher education facilities, such as the University of Tampa and Hillsborough County Community College.

The Tampa Metropolitan area is home to over twenty area hospitals, one of which, Tampa General Hospital, is located in the heart of downtown. Tampa General has one of the leading organ transplant centers in the county, as well as a burn center and level-one trauma center. Tampa General is known for being one of the largest hospitals in the state and one of the largest employers of Tampa residents.

Getting in, out and around Tampa is made easy by its public transportation systems and its convenient access to highways and airports. Public bus transportation is provided by the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) and includes thirty local and express routes. Downtown Tampa residents also enjoy the TECO Streetcar System, which runs through the Channel District, as well as the rest of the downtown area. Airline travels won’t have to go far for national or international flights, as the Tampa International Airport is nearby.
