Lutz, Florida Real Estate and Community Info.

Lutz, pronounced "Loots," was first inhabited by Native Americans. Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, attracted by the area's water supply, wild game and camping sites. Soon after, other Europeans followed and began settling in the area. The first established settlement was a Catholic mission let by a Luxembourg priest named Francis Xavier A. Stemper. The group added a post office, church, school and cemetery, and Lutz began to take shape.

The city received its name after the railroad entered the picture. An engineer named William P. Lutz named the station north of Stemper after himself, and later the name was given to the city itself. Lutz retains small-town charm while being within easy driving distance of Tampa, making Lutz, Florida real estate very popular. Its population as of 2007 was just shy of 20,000 people.
