Riverview, Florida Real Estate and Community Info.

Before being called Riverview, the town was known as "Peru," a Native American name for "straight part of the river." The Peruvian Mining Company, which mined in the nearby Alafia, borrowed its name from this as well. As settlers started inhabiting the area, a school was built in 1893 and a post office soon followed. People sending mail to the north side of the river addressed it to "Riverview," while those sending mail to the south side addressed it to "Peru." The name of Peru has since been lost, and the entire area is now known as Riverview. Today, residents enjoy living in the quiet, small city and either working in nearby Tampa or running their own businesses in town.
